If youre thinking of going to any kind of gig at the Sidney Myer.... Went there for the first time Friday night with a permanently wheelchair bound client. just fucking dont. Its an absolute shitshow.
Especially if its with anyone disabled that needs permanent supervision. The 'on site first come first served' disabled bays are verboten for permit holders, and the 'alternative' is the 10 minute taxi bays around the back. The claim of disabled bays, is at this point in time, just plain a lie to comply with disability legislation. Literally got bounced around 4 different queues and watched the group we were meant to be lined up with get sent through a different gate. Gate staff had no fucking clue what was going on at any point, until the organiser (not the venue staff) sent people out to throw weight around and ask where guests were. Venue is now cash free. Bar staff cant figure out how to deal with someone attempting to buy two 5 dollar ponchos with a 10 dollar note. There is absolutely no indication anywhere, that the place does not accept cash for anything. Dont fucking bother with merch upsales... think my dude paid like $160 and got a fucking coles shopping bag with a 5 dollar fishing hat some stickers and a poster that was completely soaked through and destroyed before the sound check had finished. The whole 'no bottles, no umbrellas, no backpacks' thing? yeah ignore it. We complied and regretted it the moment we walked in there and saw a sea of umbrellas backpacks and bottles.
Fuck that place. I mean honestly the only real reason any locals know about the place is Carols by Candelight on TV.... and literally every suburb in the city has their own, so why fucking bother at all?
Fucken.... heads would have already rolled if i was still in the same work i used to be... thered already be service contracts up for grabs on linkedin.
The deceased were called Gullah. Freed slaves largely from Angola, hence the corrupted name.
I was raised as a young boy near Parris Island US Marine Corps Base in coastal South Carolina. We would see these Gullah niggers but never interacted with them and they avoided White people.
When schools were integrated, they were exempt from going to school at all. Their Creole language made them impossible to communicate with by educators.
There's still at least a half million Gullahs still living in coatal areas.
