Guy kills himself and his heart goes to another guy, the second guy writes to the family, eventually marries the widow of the first guy, and then also kills himself... Weird!
First and foremost, before I even get to the why and how, I have to state the obvious and that is that the fight fucking sucked.
With regard to who won and why, most professional fighters interviewed seem to think that Tyson lost due to illness and/or age. Holyfield said his balance was off and people have referred to the fact that he was wearing a leg brace. There is also talk of Tyson having a 2-inch gut ulcer a couple of months out from the fight and his back being messed up. Of course, people are relentless in painting Tyson as an elderly victim in this all who was exploited by the wily and greedy Jake Paul who is making a career of fighting the elderly the retired, the semi-retired and various tomato cans who he can get to sign on a dotted line. If Jake Paul offered me just $500K, I'd gladly put gloves on and let him beat me up.
Can Jake Paul fight? The consensus is "yes." and I believe that to be true. He is fit, conditioned and has powerful punches and great foot movement. I would say that he is a very good fighter, but he is not an elite fighter who will break into a Top 10 ranking. I believe that he is a 3rd tier to 2nd tier fighter. He is a guy who should definitely not be slept on, but also not a serious heavyweight contender. He is the kind of boxer who is a name who you match against a former champion as a tune-up fight to get rid of the champ's ring rust and condition him to get back into top-5 contention. Jake Paul is not a complete bum or a tomato can, but his skills are not elite level. Additionally, the 220 lbs he is currently fighting at is due to roids. He is probably more of a natural 205 Lber and were he to continue boxing, it might suit him to actually slim down further and fight at light heavyweight.
While pundits and pros are stating that Mike was not himself and that he is old and injured, I still feel very strongly that this thing was 100% fixed and scripted and that an amiable agreement made it so Jake Paul would win, but not by knockout so as to somewhat preserve Tyson's dignity and legacy and that Tyson would not be able to throw any power punches. I watched the fight and I don't remember Tyson even throwing one combination. The complaint of him looking "off balance" was probably due to the awkwardness of him having to restrain himself and not try to beat the shit out of Jake Paul. Even if his conditioning was dog shit and his legs were out from under him, he still should have been able to give a solid 3 rounds of punishment. After all, they were only 2-minutye rounds.
Essentially this was not a competitive fight, but friendly sparring that they sold like all the other big fights are sold with a bullshit bitchslap and some bad blood drama in the days building up to it. OF course, actual boxers have to sell this pile of steaming shit as valid to everyone else because if it comes out that boxing is fixed, fake and gay, then the rubes are less likely to buy tickets and PPV because they already lost a tremendous share of profit to UFC and other MMA promotions.
